Walgett Shire Council Citizenship Ceremony April 2024
Published on 23 April 2024
The Walgett Shire Council extended a warm welcome to its latest Australian citizens over the weekend at the Walgett Show. Citizenship ceremonies have in the past been reserved for Council meetings however, this year General Manager Megan Dixon wanted to acknowledge and celebrate the formalisation of Australian citizenship within a community atmosphere.
Deputy Mayor Colin Hundy presided over the ceremony and welcomed the commitment and contributions of the new citizens to our diverse country and communities.
The success of this ceremony has encouraged Council to consider integrating future Australian Citizenship Ceremonies into community events like the Walgett Show to create memorable experiences that celebrate diversity, unity and reflect the welcoming spirit of the Walgett Shire.
While our new citizens have been within our Shire for many years, we would like to formally recognise and welcome them as Australian Citizens:
Wendy Moorehouse – Cumborah
Carmela Villarino Zito – Lightning Ridge
Cheryl Ann James – Collarenebri
We would also like to thank the Walgett Show Society for accommodating the citizenship ceremony into their opening ceremony.
