Nominations for the 2024 Australia Day Awards (Closed)

Walgett Shire Council is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Australia Day Awards. If you have been inspired by someone's exceptional sports performance, dedication to community service or active participation in any number of ways, this is your opportunity to recognise and appreciate their contributions. These awards celebrate the individuals and groups who make our community a better place to live.
The Australia Day Awards celebrate the unity, diversity, and enduring spirit of our nation, highlighting the countless ways in which Australians contribute to our country's rich tapestry. Whether they are long-standing residents, newcomers, or Indigenous custodians of this land these awards acknowledge ways people are making a difference in their local communities.
If you know someone who embodies community values, dedication, and excellence, or if you've witnessed an event that left a lasting impression, now is the time to nominate them for the 2024 Australia Day Awards.
The award categories are as follows:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Sportsperson of the Year
- Young Sportsperson of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
- Community Event of the Year
Winners will be announced on January 26, 2024, during an Awards Presentation with the venue and ambassador to be confirmed. All nominees and nominators will receive invitations to the event and "Australia Day in the Outback" celebrations that follow.
Residents can nominate by downloading the form below. Forms are also available at Council's administration buildings, libraries and information centres.
Nominations are open until 5:00 PM on January 12, 2024.
Completed forms can be emailed to admin@walgett.nsw.gov.au, posted to PO Box 31, Walgett, NSW 2832, or hand-delivered to Council buildings.
