Generally Speaking - A word from Megan Dixon

A word from the General Manager,

Well, it is hard to believe that we are at the business end of July already, the year has flown by fast, but at least we know we are getting closer to some warmer weather.

The good thing about the cooler months though is that it is our peak tourist season and there have been plenty of caravanners and campers taking advantage of our region and all it has to offer.

It has been great to see our local events going ahead also, and the weather really turned it on for Carinda Picnic Races last weekend.

The grounds, the track and the event were an enormous success, and I must congratulate all those involved in making it happen.

These community events really are the backbone of our small towns and villages and are an important addition to our social calendars. Whether it be welcoming old friends and family back to town or making new ones who made the journey to check it out.

If races aren't your thing, there is plenty of stuff to see and do in the coming weeks, and I hope we as a region will support our small committees who make a mighty effort to run these events

Speaking of events, the Local Government Elections will soon be upon us.

Nominations Open on August 5th and close at 12 noon August 14th, so if you have ever thought about giving it a shot, you still have time.

Before I sign off, I wanted to share something with you all.

Last week, I celebrated 12 months in the role of General Manager here at Walgett Shire Council and while not without its challenges (nothing worthwhile ever is!) I already feel at home here. This is because of a combination of many things; the warm-hearted and friendly people I have met, the wonderful staff who have supported me and the abundance of natures beauty across the whole LGA, from the bustle of the Ridge, to the serenity of Burren Junction, the rocking community in Rowena and the passionate and pro-active communities of Come By Chance, Collarenabri and Carinda. I know now why you all choose to call this wonderful region home. I am looking forward to working with you all and helping us make WSC LGA even better. If you haven’t already, check out the Community Survey

If you have made it this far, thanks for reading and see you around.
