Walgett Shire Council announces resignation of General Manager, Megan Dixon

Walgett Shire Council has today announced the resignation of its General Manager, Megan Dixon. Ms Dixon will conclude her tenure after 20 months of service to the Walgett community.

Reflecting on her tenure, Ms Dixon stated:

"It has been an honour to serve as the General Manager of Walgett Shire Council. During my time, I have worked alongside a dedicated team to deliver significant outcomes for the community. I am particularly proud of our achievements in securing funding for critical infrastructure projects, strengthening emergency management capabilities, and fostering strong relationships with the State Government, our community, and Walgett Shire’s First Nations peoples. I am grateful for the opportunity to have led the organisation with integrity and a commitment to the wellbeing of our staff and residents."

Mayor Jasen Ramien acknowledged Ms Megan Dixon’s significant contribution to Walgett Shire Council, stating:

“On behalf of Walgett Shire Council, I extend our thanks to Megan Dixon for her service. Throughout her time with Council, Ms Dixon has guided the organisation through five natural disasters and playing a key role in securing critical funding for the Walgett swimming pool redevelopment and the Lightning Ridge Bore Line. These major projects will deliver long-term benefits to our community. Ms Dixon’s commitment to the organisation has been valued, and we wish her every success in her future endeavours.”

During today’s Council meeting, Council appointed Mr Andrew Brown to the role of Acting General Manager.

“Mr Brown brings extensive experience in Local Government executive leadership and has been working with Walgett Shire for the past six months. His familiarity with Council operations enables him to step into the role seamlessly, ensuring continuity of essential services for the community. Council will take the necessary time to carefully assess its leadership needs and appoint the right person to guide the organisation into the future.” Cr Ramien stated.

In the interim, Mr Brown, with the support of the executive leadership team, has been tasked by the elected Councillors with continuing efforts to prepare Council for the work ahead.

“Councillors remain committed to the delivery of services and the strategic planning process for the coming years. A key priority is the preparation of the Four-Year Delivery Program, which will outline Council’s goals and commitments for the term ahead.

"This is a critical document that sets out what we plan to achieve over the next four years. To ensure we capture the aspirations of our community, we will be undertaking wide ranging consultation to guide our priorities," Cr Ramien said.

Council remains committed to fostering a stable and transparent environment while delivering essential services and strategic planning that reflects the needs of the Walgett Shire community.
