Walgett Shire Council, in partnership with the NSW Government is proud to announce the development of an inclusive play space at Lions Park, situated next to the Visitor Information Centre on Bill O’Brien Way.

The final designs for the play space reflect the feedback from the community over multiple rounds of consultation. The plans are <here > for you to view and make comment on.

Designed to celebrate the unique identity of Lightning Ridge, the play space will prominently feature public art becoming a distinctive landmark at the town's entrance. Notable features of this inclusive play space include shade and vegetation for cooling, a play tower complete with a platform, climbing net, and slide, misting boulders, a balance trail, musical play elements, a hand-cranked fan and a relaxing hammock swing.

To ensure accessibility for all ages and abilities the play space includes features such as a footpath from the adjacent car park, ramped access to the play platform, seating areas, and access to drinking water.

A unique aspect of this project is a cooling wall to keep the space as comfortable as possible during the summer weather.

Construction is expected to be completed by June 2024.

The project will be on public exhibition until 5pm on the 22nd of November 2023.
